YeTi is a global network of large public touchscreen displays, supporting corporate communication between FXPAL in Palo Alto, CA and Fuji Xerox, in Nakai, Japan. YeTi is the winner of the Design Award for "Best Utility" and 2nd place winner at the 2004 DIS Design Awards (Professional category). YeTi is a new deployment of the Plasma Poster from the Social Computing Group at FXPAL (Elizabeth Churchill, Les Nelson, Laurent Denoue, and Paul Murphy). Plasma Poster networks let authenticated members post content to large touchscreens in public places within corporate offices. User-posted content takes the form of Web pages, images, MPGs, or formatted email messages. YeTi differs from previous Plasma Posters by supporting channels or categories of postings. There are six YeTi channels, three for FXPAL and three for Fuji Xerox. Secure Web-based management pages support maintenance of meta-information about members and member-posted content. Jonathan Helfman designed the look and feel of the touch-screen user interface and the Web pages. Helfman created the images in Illustrator and Photoshop, wrote the HTML, JavaScript, JSPs, and several of the Java Bean methods that query the MySql database to return information about YeTi members and their posted content.

The scrapbook functions as a corporate memory by providing an online interface to the historical archive of postings. The main scrapbook page shows thumbnail images of the four most recent postings in each channel. Select a round channel button to see the entire channel. Select any thumbnail to view or modify the associated posting. |
